CNN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE — THURSDAY— LIVE ON C-SPAN2, C-SPAN.ORG AND C-SPAN NOW

8 p.m. — Debate preview

9 p.m. — Debate simulcast

10:40 p.m. — Debate reaction

Biden and Trump have agreed to debate each other twice ahead of the Nov. 5 election. CNN will host the first debate in Atlanta on June 27, which will be moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. ABC will host the second debate on Sept. 10, with David Muir and Linsey Davis serving as moderators.

This is the first time since 1988 that the Commission on Presidential Debates has been circumvented by the leading candidates of both parties.

While presidential debates are not required, the first presidential debate in the modern era was held between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon in 1960. No debates took place in 1964, 1968 and 1972. Debates resumed in 1976 and continued in the 1980 and 1984 election cycles.

The Commission on Presidential Debates became the formal sponsor of presidential and vice presidential debates beginning in 1988.

A date for a vice presidential debate has not been set, though the Biden-Harris Campaign has proposed holding one after the Republican National Convention in late July.
