I'm glad your surgeon is not doing something she's not comfortable with, but at the same time, you probably would have been OK as I probably would have been OK. This clearly seems to be a matter of healthcare being too conservative about medical transition care since it's not old. Or perhaps I've endured so much hardship that a slight bit of pain in recovery doesn't get to me.
